COMAL PlayNET Notes -- August 1985
===== ======= ===== ====== ====
PART 2
======
--------------- Aug 15 ---------------
Jim V is trying to convert the
"Guess'It" program on COMAL Today Disk
#5 from 0.14 to 2.0. Since that prog-
ram modifies itself, that is turning
out to be a tough chore!
Captain COMAL opened the all-new
"Beginning COMAL" room. No signif-
icant news from him. Those of us in
the "COMAL" room spent most of our
time talking about the internal
differences between COMAL 0.14 and 2.0
(prompted by Jim V's conversion at-
tempt, no doubt!).
Captain C came back, after all the
beginners had left. CUGUSA got a new
fast-loading routine called "SIZZLE".
Unlike Jesse Knight's now popular
"COMAL Quick", SIZZLE is public
domain, can be used to load other
programs besides "C64 COMAL 0.14", and
does NOT work on the MSD disk drives.
--------------- Aug 22 ---------------
Robert S1 says IBM's (UniCOMAL's)
PC-COMAL works well with MS-DOS 2.0+
utilities such as GRAPHICS.COM, SORT.
EXE, RAMDISK.SYS (VDISK.SYS), etc.
Captain COMAL informed us that Uni-
COMAL is not some large conglomerate,
but consists of 3 programmers and 1
hardware man!
Jim V and Judy S opened the
"Beginning COMAL" room. This time,
Captain C stayed in the main Comal
room. Robert S1 asked where the IRQ
vector pointed to in COMAL 2.0. That
led to a VERY technical discussion
on interrupts, the INTERRUPT command
in COMAL, vectors in general, etc.
--------------- Aug 29 ---------------
Captain Comal reported that the
unprotected MyTech COMAL Demo Disk
2.1 was out. Then he went to the
Beginning COMAL room.
COMAL got some space (three
articles, in fact!) in The Transactor
"Languages" issue (Nov 85).
Robert S1 says the best article
he has seen on COMAL is in Computer
Languages Magazine, June 85. COMAL
was listed as its Exotic Language of
the Month.
David S5 says a friend of his
wrote a terminal program in BASIC
that supports XMODEM, Kermit and
other protocols. He wants someone to
translate it into COMAL.
Richard O has finished his COMAL
BBS program and is Beta-testing it
now! Anyone who wants a sample
newsletter and 30-day free trial with
a copy of the source and SYSOP's
tricks, send a SASE and a blank disk
to:
Edu-Train System
1406 High Meadow Circle
Garland, TX 75040
The first release will not be public-
domain, but will be free to copy. All
who help Beta-Test will be given
updates as they are available.
David T says the PeopleLink (PLink)
COMAL club now exists. Up/Download
will be ready in 2 weeks or so. We
can meet there as well as PN. Type
"/CLU" at PLink Main Menu to get in.
COMAL 0.14 does have several
feaures not found (yet!) in 2.0. One
is the ability to have individual
background colors for each
"text-cell" area on the hi-res
graphics screen. There is a bug in
2.0's ZONE statement -- some values
are ignored!
David S5 wrote 2 packages -- one
emulates the FIRST and LAST FUNCtions
from PC-COMAL, and the other rotates
characters 90 degrees for PLOTTEXT!
